Moving time! ;-)
In case anyone wants to know, I've setup a blog on my own:
Sunday morning, my heating failed - just in time for the winter to come back, or maybe to finally come? I told the caretaker yesterday (in the afternoon) when I got back in and noticed the heating was still not working. She said she supposedly reported it.
I called my landlord this morning to notify her in advance that I am going to call someone on my own if her guy doesn't fix it - she didn't know a thing. Well, now she knows.
I got a call from the service guy at 3 PM today and he told me that he could maybe (!!!) come about at around 5 PM, maybe. Which is almost a direct quote. He has to write down a model number and probably needs to replace a part.
Jesus fucking christ, Einstein. I figured out that much on my own through searching on the Internet (no joke).
Then he actually wanted to (maybe) come tomorrow at 2 PM, but I denied that. I pretty much stressed that he has to fix it today because this place is a fucking gigantic freezer. But he says he doesn't know if he can.
I feel like it's warmer outside, so I will go outside for an hour or two until he comes by.
Update, 3:30 PM
Just got a call from another guy who fixes stuff around the apartment building. He troubleshooted it over the phone and said that my heating's water tank needs to be refilled. He went on to say that there are hooks for a water hose (I have no idea where those hooks are, neither do I own a water hose!) and that it is my responsibility to refill the fucker?! Yeah, he said: "I can't come around for every little thing!".
Update, 4:00 PM
Landlord says I don't need to refill anything. That's what she pays them for.
Update, 5:00 PM
The guy came - right on time. We searched all my apartment for an outlet to refill the heating. Found none. Now he's in the bathroom tearing down one tile at the time trying to find the outlet. He's way obnoxious. I told him that I want it fixed today.
In the process I also discovered that my caretaker didn't call anyone on Sunday. She called everyone this morning.
Update, 5:30 PM
To show my good will, I made him coffee. >:(
Update, 20:20 PM
He left about 45 minutes ago, but got the job done.
In the search process he had to remove four tiles until he discovered the outlet. The bathroom doesn't look too pretty now. And I am glad that he at least seemed to be someone in the know with plumper background to some degress - despite the person who did the job in the beginning.
All in all, it took like him 20 minutes to slowly but surely remove the tiles (without breaking too much) and then he had to fetch said water hose and a connector to go from 0.5 inches to 1.25 inches (or something like that) someone else to refill and test the heating. Which makes it seem even more outrageous when they wrongfully claim that I have to take care of this refill process - even if the outlet had not been hidden by tiles.
To confirm I double checked my info with my grandpa who is a landlord too, and someone who is a lawyer. ;-)
Operation bathroom took like almost two hours in the end. Now I need to clean up the place and wait for them to come back on Friday when they fix my tiles. I also voiced my general concerns (I'm a bitch!) to the landlord about the quality of work provided and the kindness of the people involved here, which I did in hope to speed things up significantly.
Sometimes I have those early as hell Saturday's when I get up and get shit done.
So for example today, thanks to jetlaggyness I was up from 2 AM and decided to not go to sleep when I got tired around 7. So I went out, had breakfast, then bought an adapter to charge my cam, met someone for a short meeting in Friedrichshain. After the meeting I went for a short photo walk in the rain (more of that later). Thanks to my new jacket I am not wet at all! Yay.
I also tried to call some friends in between, but except for Alex who had been twittering since 6 or so in the morning, no one was up.
So anyway, since it has been raining all day, I noticed that my wiper blades were all messed up, and unfortunately I am a lazy bastard about those things. So I went for a stop at a car shop and replaced them myself, which is of course not really hard, but it was my first time doing so and whatever I can do on the car without paying someone makes me a bit proud. It's always good to get your hands dirty.
In the process I also learned that wind blades have little indicators which turn from black to yellow when you need to replace them. On my old ones, the indicators were fading out from yellow into white.
So far for today, for the rest of this fine Saturday my project is to build a bed. Yep, build, not buy. I will document and let you know how it turns out. I have a rough idea which revolves around a new mattress and building a frame. It will be bigger than my current and of course better.
I totally love this song. When I was in NYC last month Darshan selected it one night when we went out for karaoke and since then it kind of got stuck in my head. On related news, check this vimeo lip-dub of it.
Paranoia, paranoia, everyone is coming to get me!
One of my pictures from Hamburg made it into Schmap-guide, check it out:

The missing link in this case is a person who connected me back to a social network long before I was thinking about friends in terms of "social networks" - back in high school!
So do you remember high school? I remember some of it, not because I hated it but because it's so long ago (6+ years now). All in all I had two high schools. One in Germany, Georgius Agricola Gymnasium, and another one, Cedar Crest High School, where I went for just one year (1998/1999) when I were in the U.S. for a student exchange.
My time in German high school is devided up into "pre 11th grade" and the time past. Primarily because the student exchange took place after 10th grade and once you come back for your Junior year in Germany you go to school with other people and your friends are a grade above you - Seniors at the time.
A couple days ago this girl from my "pre 11th grade"-time sent me a message on Facebook, which did surprise me a lot because even though we spent five years together in the same class - and I think we even sat next to each other for about a year, and our parents know each other pretty well - I have not really talked to her since 10th grade. At least it feels like this.
She told me that there are many people on the German Facebook (Studivz) and two days ago or so I looked up all those people from a long time ago and sometimes had problems remembering names, saw how some look just the same like back then, others are getting hold (the hair, you know) and so many of them I know so well, but I haven't talked to in ages.
Memories...
Is very busy lately.
I have nothing to add here. Sometimes I think that I live at the office currently because the current relaunch eats so much time. It's hot stuff too and we are a bit short on project management perspective, but we are getting there. And we all know.
The rest of my free time I currently either sleep or pretty much spent it all on the Metroblog and a few smaller projects. So there. Now you know.
Then shit always happens when you least need it to happen. So for example my Airport Extreme died last week. It's one of two Apple products in my apartment. One is the Extreme and the other one is an iPod. While I like the iPod, I am so not happy with the Extreme.
A note of advice...
AllIn 99% of all cases, Apple products have a limit where there should be none. For example, my Airport Extreme only allows 12 clients to connect. Some might say, "WTF? 12 - that is a lot!", but it really isn't because I've used it in circumstances where far more people needed access.- The Airport Extreme does not like downloads. So for example, you download the latest FreeBSD ISO over night - you might need to reboot the Airport in the morning because it froze half way through.
- The Airport Extreme reserves the right to freeze for whatever reason and whenever.
- For all changes you apply, the Airport issues a reboot - reminds you of Windows?
Once again I also tried to catch up with my feedreader tonight and failed. I did read a few blogs websites, and sometimes, this stuff can crack me up indeed. There are people, who I know - some in person. All they do on there is really write a bunch of bullshit.
Yeah. Bullshit.
Nothing of it is true or sometimes only very little is. For example they claim to do something but they really don't and never did. Funny, ain't it? A lot of it is seasoned with very business-like talk to make them look all knowledgable and interesting. One man, a company. But they should be cooking on the simmer instead.
Most interesting to me is that this kind of insight always comes when you talk to people about it. Like it never occured to me before. But today I just had a conversation about the very same topic with an ex-colleague. Citizen journalism at its best. The best example why blogs are not to be trusted in the corporate world. Because many people lie.
So this means, unless your company is Web 2.0 and/or revolves around blogging in general - it's hard to build a relationship of trust.
In the end this kind of stuff should not really crack one me up. I know. It's evil to enjoy other people's mishaps. Maybe not evil. But what goes around, comes around. But I just had to laugh when I opened the article and read through it. In the end it's actually pretty sad to lie like that and publish it.
Anyway, I unsubscribed.
Finally time to move on with real life. 2007 is looking great!
